Karina Sampei Brown

As communications director for the Office of Business and Finance, Karina Brown helps to advance and convey Ohio State’s major financial initiatives, with an emphasis on operational excellence and resource stewardship to support the university’s core mission.

Karina is an experienced communication professional with more than twenty years of experience in fields ranging from higher education and workforce development to financial, insurance and professional services.

She joined Ohio State in 2019 from Columbus State, where she was a member of the president's leadership team. As assistant to the president, she managed executive communications and strategic initiatives bolstering community awareness and reinforcing student engagement. 

Prior to Columbus State, Karina led workforce development marketing strategies for the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce with an emphasis on K-12 career academies for Columbus City Schools. She held previous roles in marketing and communications for Arthur Andersen, Progressive Insurance and Fifth Third Bank.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing from Otterbein University and resides in Clintonville with her husband and two sons.
