In 1996, The American Payroll Association founded National Payroll Week (NPW) to coincide with the celebration of Labor Day. NPW honors working individuals, the payroll professionals who pay them, and the critical government programs and agencies that our payroll system funds such as Medicare, social security, and the US military. Together through the payroll withholding system, payroll professionals collect, contribute, and report 70% of the U.S. Treasury’s annual revenue.
Every year, Payroll Services processes and pays over $3 billion of gross earnings to our employees. Just last month, our Payroll Services department processed 96,888 paychecks representing over 7.73 million hours worked! It might be surprising to hear that we pay employees and withhold taxes across 44 different states and 390 different localities!
This year, National Payroll Week is 9/2 - 9/6. How can you celebrate NPW?
